My Story as an Author
I first became interested in martial arts for self-defense but quickly gained a real love for the sport as my son became an MMA champion in 2010. Active as a mixed martial artist for eleven years until 2020, I hold a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do, a white belt in Jiu-Jitsu, and was training in Muay Thai. I continue to train in MMA but now I’m mostly involved as an observer of these warriors inside and outside of the octagon.
The original idea to write this trilogy series is covered in my first book. It came to me swiftly in a vision as I sat inside an arena awaiting the next courageous warrior to enter the scene of the event. It was pitch black and dead silent, yet thousands of people were present….

I realized at that moment on September 27, 2014, that this sport of MMA was a fulfillment to my dream! My son, Dominick Cruz, was about to have a major comeback inside this arena after several injuries that took him out of his champion status after having been UFC Bantamweight Champion for more than four years. I said to myself, “I am going to be the one to share their stories in a way that has never been told before!”
The trilogy series

Broken Before Battle:
Changing Lives Outside the Octagon
Features eight testimonies told by the fighters and coaches themselves.
You’ll discover details of their determined mindset, learn that their MMA success isn’t all about money, and feel their passion to share life-changing concepts through the sport they enjoy. They overcame negative odds and together, we desire to build a legacy of perseverance for future generations.
As a mother continuing to share my personal story of overcoming obstacles, growing our family, and raising MMA champion and commentator Dominick Cruz, I wrote the second in the trilogy.

Broken Before Battle:
Raising Champions for Tomorrow
Tells the stories after exclusive personal interviews that include their heart-felt mindsets in leadership, perseverance, self-doubt, devastation, tragedy and triumph.
Through the fire comes a sincere purging of excuses that creates a refined outcome in each champion. They disclose the secrets they utilize and reveal mindful tactics to establish new habits of growth—even in the darkest of times.
I feel honored because they took time to dig deep and share truths about their own journeys that you won’t find anywhere else.
